Purpose practice #1: A purpose-method-goal audit

Purpose
Answer these questions about your vitality imperative:
  1. Do have a purpose for your challenge?
    • If yes, what is the purpose?
      • On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is the purpose to you? What explains your rating?
      • On a scale of 1 to 10, how important is the purpose to other people who are essential to success? What explains your rating?
    •  If no, move to #2.
  2. Do you have a measurable goal or goals? If so, what are they?
    • For you, what is important about the goal(s)? (Ask and answer at least three times.)
    • For others, what is important about the goal(s)? (Ask and answer at least three times.)
    • How will you measure success? What early warning measures will keep you alert along the way?
  3. Does your method of success connect purpose and goal?
    • Are your methods true to purpose? If not, what actions will you take?
    • Are you confident in your plan? If not, what actions will you take?

 

This quick audit is an occasion for reflection. As you answer the questions, consider the following:

  • A plan driven by mutual purpose requires less supervision than “ordinary” plans.
  • A mutual purpose accelerates the development of goals and methods.
